Joss Whedon’s Agents of SHIELD will further expand the list of Marvel villains to jump from the pages of comics to live-action television. On Tuesday, January 14th, the sinister Donnie Gill will appear alongside fellow baddie Ian Quinn. The announcement of Donnie Gill appearing may not be an immediate reason to get excited. However, Gill is the secret identity of the treacherous Blizzard.
Agents has stumbled since its debut earlier this year. Primary criticisms from fans and critics include poor acting and a lack of linking story arcs that involve tie-ins to Marvel’s cinematic pieces. Continuing this trend would alter Donnie Gill’s origin story, as Iron Man 2 placed his boss and recruiter, Justin Hammer (Sam Rockwell) at the center of its schlock-filled story. It is very unlikely that Rockwell will reprise his role for television.
In addition, the comic-origin of Donnie Gill as Blizzard involves Justin Hammer building an Iron Man-like suit for him, which controls cryogenic circuitry to the point that he can shoot ice blasts. Blizzard is later reached out to by SHIELD, who thinks he has been mislead by Hammer, but he accidentally electrocutes himself to death before he can be redeemed.
