44 years ago today, the short-lived but ground-breaking show Star Trek featured the first kiss between Kirk and Uhura. While the kiss was a minor plot point in the grand scheme of space, the final frontier, the fact that Uhura was not played by a Caucasian woman was shocking at the time.
This moment was a landmark in history because it was the first interracial kiss on television. So, as celebrations are in order, we ask you the following: How far have we as a society come? Are we better off socially and politically now, or were the 60’s more stable, despite its lack of tolerance?
